Russell, age 76, our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend was called home by the Lord on Tuesday October 3, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born March 31, 1941 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Rueben E. Sr. and Elsie M. (Cathey) Russell.  He married Millie J. Sinn on October 21, 1977, and she survives him.  Art retired from the U.S. Navy as Sonar Technician Senior Chief on October 16, 1979, with over 21 years of active service and 17 years in the Naval Reserve.  Art’s naval experience included service on 7 submarines, on the Operational Submarine Admiral Staff, and as instructor at Fleet Sonar School.  Art had extensive experience as Sonar Supervisor and in sonar tracking operations and maintenance.  He was very handy around the house and always enjoyed building things.  Art was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Life member of the V.F.W. Post 15023, D.A.V., and the American Legion Post 18.  He also served as Exalted Ruler of the Manassas Elks Lodge #2512, which later merged to become the Woodbridge Lodge #2355, of which he was a lifetime member.  Surviving besides his wife Millie, he leaves five children, Peter A. Russell; Christine M. Tracie; Rebecca L. Russell; Michael J. Russell (Rebecca Burmeister); Michelle J. (Sam) Williams; grandchildren, Cheyanne M. Russell; Isaac E. Williams along with five other grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother, Reuben E. (Barbara) Russell Jr. and two sisters, Patricia M. Hobbs and Carolyn F. (J.R.) Jeffries.  Funeral service will take place on Saturday October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Bay County Veteran’s Council will begin with military honors followed by Pastor Joe Atchinson.  Private burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m. and on Saturday after 10:00 a.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.
