Dorothy M. Ford

Bay City, Michigan

Dorothy M. Ford, age 89, passed away peacefully the afternoon of Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Auburn Heights Senior Care of Auburn, Michigan.  Dorothy was born to the late Francis L. and Anna M. (Cochran) Beaudrie on June 15, 1928 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan.  She was united in marriage to the late Paul L. Ford in St. Mary’s Cathedral of Sault Ste. Marie on June 1, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Dorothy worked for many years as the Administrative Assistant to the CEO of Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sault St. Marie and later, Sacred Heart Church of Bad Axe.  Throughout life, Dorothy was a well-known and accomplished figure skater.  She was affectionately known as the “Queen of the two Saults” (Ontario and Michigan). At one time, Dottie was invited to join the professional and international skating group, “The Ice Capades.”  Dorothy was also an excellent seamstress, often making her daughter’s clothing.  She was classy and “fashion forward” in her thinking and was always known to dress and look her very best at all times.  Her contagious smile added to her presence. She provided well for her family as a loving and excellent wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She is survived by her loving family: her daughters, Christine Ann (Gary) Mell, and Linda L. Ford.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Heather Marie Mell (Jason Ur) and Sarah Elise Mell (Kim Jordan); two great grandchildren, Jane (8) and William (6) Ur; a nephew, John and nieces, Diane, Susan, Debbie, Nancy and Kathy.  Dorothy was predeceased by her brother, Tom Beaudrie.

The family would like to, most sincerely, thank her compassionate and sensitive caregivers at Auburn Heights Senior Care Center.

Per Dorothy’s request, cremation has taken place.  No services are planned through Ambrose Funeral Home at this time.  A private Celebration of Dorothy’s life will occur this fall.  Inurnment will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Saginaw, Michigan at a later date.
