Valentine J. “Val” Switala

switala-new photoOur loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Tuesday June 28, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region, age 73.   He was born July 3, 1942 in Bay City to the late Valentine E. and Mary F. (Musielak) Switala.  Val married Jennine M. Savage on February 14, 1986 and have celebrated over 30 years of marriage, she survives him.  He retired from Steering Gear in 1999 after 34 years of dedicated service.  Val was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church, Muskrat Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1010, Elks Lodge #2731 and the Moose Lodge #2276 both in Florida.  Val was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending his winters in Florida.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and found solace working in his yard and sitting on his swing.

Surviving besides his wife Jennine are seven children: Danny (Tina) Gee, Jassen (Melynda) Schweitzer, Bill (Wendy) Schweitzer, David, Brian, Kelli and Brad Switala, thirteen grandchildren: Theresa, Tom, Tiffany, Sarah, Amanda, Tia, Riley, Kaylee, Jayden, Dylan, Jax, Brady and Logan, three sisters: Rose (George) Kubczak, Geri (Art) Bukowski and Joan (Robert) Groch and one brother in-law Loyd Anderson.  Val was predeceased by a sister, Rita Anderson.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday July 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.  at               Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church.   Fr. Rosemary Mitas

     Rosemary passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, age 76.  She was born March 12, 1940 in Bay City to the late Edward and Wanda (Dominowski) Bruzewski.  Rosemary was married to Stephen Mitas and he predeceased her on September 29, 1970.  She was currently employed with Short Freight Lines and a member of Corpus Christi Parish-Holy Trinity Church.

Surviving are two sons, Marc J. Page and Stephen Mitas, one grandson Edward Page, one brother Roy Bruzewski and one sister Joanne (Jack) Boyle.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Parish-Holy Trinity Church.  Fr. Bert Gohm will celebrate Mass and interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm and at church on Thursday after 10:00 am.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Corpus Christi Parish.

Carol A. Michalak

michalakphotoCarol passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region, age 75.  She was born January 18, 1941 in Bay City to the late Frank and Victoria (Nowakowski) Michalak, Jr. and has lived in Bay City all her life.  Carol was employed with Bay Glass Company and a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church.  She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Societies, church choir, Sacristan and A.B.W.A.  Carol was devoted to her church and faith.  She also, kept several people in her prayers daily by lighting votive candles for them in church.  Carol enjoyed bowling, polka music, dancing and trying her luck at the casinos.

Surviving are many dear friends, Tim and Michele Wisniewski, Barb Wisniewski, Carl Carlton, Paul and Anne Wisniewski, Kris and Gary Wiedyk, Mike and Sharon Pagryzinski, William and Michele Pagryzinski, and all of their respective families and also the Jozwiak and Roznowski Families.  Carol was predeceased by Tom and John Wisniewski, Esther Pagryzinski, and Henrietta Carlton.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. Rick Filary will celebrate Mass and interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and at church on Thursday after 9:00 am.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children Hospital or Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.

George E. LaVictoire “Butch”

LaVictoire was called home by his Heavenly Father on Monday June 20, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family, at the age of 72.  He was born January 27, 1944 in Bay City to the late Cyril and Cecelia (Karnath) LaVictoire.  George married the former Janet (Girvin) Baum on June 12, 2004 and she survives him.  Butch served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War and later worked at Bay City Chevrolet for many years before retiring.  He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., an avid drag racing fan and even raced his own race car called “Nasty Nash”.  George enjoyed hunting, taking trips to Sand Lake and playing cards.  Surviving besides his wife Janet he leaves three children; Matt (Michelle) LaVictoire, Mike (Kristy) LaVictoire, Amanda LaVictoire, two step-children; Jeff (Martha) Baum, Jennice (Chuck) Shaw, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are three sisters and one brother; Joan (Richard) Shelton, Lillian Lovely, Darlene (Ernie) Woods, Laurence LaVictoire and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a daughter, Anita LaVictoire, two brother’s in-law; Dick Lesnich and Bert Lovely.  A Memorial Service will take place Friday June 24, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate followed by military honors.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Friday from 3 – 7 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

William W. Irving Sr.

Irving Sr. was called home by his Lord on Saturday June 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 69.  He was born November 23, 1946 in Bay City to the late Robert and Dorothy (Elder) Irving.  Bill worked at the former Hirshfield and Sons Scrap Yard for many years before retiring.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.  Surviving are three children; Stephanie (Darryl) Douglas, Dawn (Bill) Osterman, William Irving Jr. and their mother, Barbara Bruce.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Brittney, Anthony, Robert, Austin, Samantha, Tyler, Joseph, Alicia, two brothers and three sisters; David (Mary) Irving, Steve (Sally) Irving, Bonny (Dan) Sutter, Ruthann (James) Heinz and Linda (Terry) Barcia.  He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Irving.  Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services at the funeral home.

Donald F. Sprygada

     Donald passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at his residence, age 89.  He was born December 25, 1926 in Bay City to the late Michael and Agnes (Kowalski) Sprygada.  Don married Jacqueline Ryers on September 17, 1949 and she predeceased him on June 22, 2002.  He was drafted in 1945 into the US Army during the end of WWII but did not go overseas.  He joined the Navy reserves in 1949 and boarded the USS Brown for active service during the Korean Conflict.  Donald was a chemical engineer with Dow Corning for over 37 years, until his retirement in 1986.  From 1962 to 1966, he was the Committee Chair for the Boy Scouts of America, an avid golfer all his life and a member of the PLAV, Pulaski Club and former member of Corpus Christi Parish-Holy Trinity Church.

Surviving are seven children: Mark Allen (Marcie LeMaster) Sprygada, James Donald (Wanda) Sprygada, Michael Peter (Tracy) Sprygada, David Francis (Rosemary Alford) Sprygada, Matthew Stephen (Kathleen King) Sprygada, Anne Marie (Fred) Brissette and Amy Joan (Robert) LaRose, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister in-law, Vera Sprygada, many nieces and nephews.  Don was predeceased by one sister Evelyn Wisniewski and one brother Chester Sprygada.

Per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Don’s life and Military Honor’s, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council will be held Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 7:00 pm at the Squires Funeral Home.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 to 7:00 pm.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Heart Association.
