Mark L. Yax

     Mark passed away Monday evening April 27, 2015 at the age of 60.  He was born May 23, 1954 in Bay City to the late Kenneth and Constance (Swantek) Yax.  He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1972 and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.

Surviving are two sons, Christopher and Nicholas (Jennifer) Yax, their mother, Robin Yax, one grandson, Graydon Yax, one brother, Craig (Ramona) Yax, nieces, nephews and three brother in-laws: Steve (Donna), John (Joy) and Mike (Linda) Pilon.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  No visitation is scheduled at the Ambrose Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Bay City.

Maryann Spooner

Maryann passed away suddenly Friday, April 24, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 57.  She was born August 3, 1957 in Bay City and graduated from Hemlock High School in 1975.  Maryann truly enjoyed going to the beach and working on her tan.  She enjoyed collecting light houses and Coca-Cola memorabilia. She will always be remembered as a “mom” to many and treasured the times with family, friends and her dog.  Surviving is a son, Adam (Tina) Spooner, her mother and step-father, Donna “Finkbeiner” (Richard) LaPan, three brothers and a sister; Mark (Joan) Trudell, Brian (Lauri) Trudell, David LaPan, Sherry LaPan and her partner Rose and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her father, Robert Trudell.  Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1109 Corrinne Street Midland, MI. 48642, from 2 – 6 p.m. If your able to attend please bring a dish to pass.

Helen B. Szurczak

Szurczek-photo165Helen Szurczak was called home by her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Bay Medical Care Facility at the age of 101.  She was born May 20, 1913 in Bay City to the late Michael J. and Mary (Bonk) Gorney.  Helen worked at Prestolite for many years before retiring.  She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish – St. Marys of the Assumption Church.  Helen enjoyed bowling, dancing, shopping and most of all spending time with her family.  Surviving is a son in-law, Cecil Sawatzke, four grandchildren; Jenny (Jim) Pembroke, Sandy (Doug) Moses, Mike Sawatzke, Brian Sawatzke, nine great-grandchildren; Lisa (Brad) Shaw, Melissa Syring, Terry (Stacie) Syring, Amanda Moses, Doug Moses & Fiancée Lisa, Brad Moses, Justin Sawatzke, Jordan Sawatzke and Tyler Sawatzke.  Also surviving are six great-great grandchildren; Adrianna Rodriguez, Aaden, Alex & Owen Shaw, Kaylee Syring, Jase Moses and two sisters; Louise Dailing and Joan Gorney.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Delores Sawatzke, a grandson, Jim Sawatzke, four brothers; John, Floyd, Walt & Mike Gorney and a sister, Betty Jaskiewicz.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Bernard J. “Ben” Ruszkowski

Our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, age 74.  He was born October 19, 1940 in Bay City to the late Walter and Joann H. (Adamski) Ruszkowski.  He graduated from St. Stanislaus School in 1959 and then enlisted in the US Air Force where he served his country during the Vietnam Era and retired after 23 years of dedicated service.  Bernard married Patricia A. Mysliwski in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on October 19, 1963 and she survives him.  He was a long time member of St. Michaels Parish in Remus, Michigan and currently with Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Stanislaus Church.  Ben was a member and supporter of the DAV and American Legion in Portage and enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoors and the occasional round of golf.  He was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and the University of Michigan.

Surviving besides his wife, Patricia are four children: John (Sue) Ruszkowski, Richard (Michelle) Ruszkowski, Traci (Al) Salmi and Joann (Rick) Statz, eleven grandchildren: Mike, David, Jessica, Kayla, Steven, Luke, Jake, Zach, Matthew, Nicholas and Caleb, three brothers: Edward (Ann) Ruskowski, Bill (Sandy) Ruszkowski and David (friend, Ron Deyo) Ruszkowski, two sisters, Monica (Joe) Borkowski and Jane (Al) Kula, one sister in-law, Betty Ruszkowski and a beloved aunt, Ida Belle Vetter.  Ben was predeceased by three brothers: Robert (Pat #1) Ruskowski, Danny Ruszkowski and Jim Ruszkowski and an uncle Elmer Vetter.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Stanislaus Church.  Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will celebrate Mass and military honors, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council will be after Mass in the church plaza.  Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and Thursday at church after 9:00 am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Ben will be held Wednesday at 7:00 pm from the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Lung Association.

Thomas E. Nalazek was called home by his Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at From the Heart Home Care age 68 years.  He was born April 13, 1947 in Bay City to the late Edward M. and Leona M. (Markiecki) Nalazek.  Tom married the former Linda J. Cook July 14, 1973 and she survives him.  He served our country in the U.S. Army and worked at Bay City Chevrolet for many years before retiring in 1998.  Tom was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish – St. John the Evangelist Church and was a faithful usher for over 25 years.  He was a member of the P.L.A.V. Post 162, the Bay County Humane Society and participated on military funerals with the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Surviving besides his wife Linda, he leaves a son, Jason Nalazek, his mother in-law, Seena G. Cook, two brothers and two sisters: Paul Nalazek & friend Rita, Michael Nalazek, Janie (Art) Nadobny, Yvonne (Scott) Chesney, one brother in-law, Dr. David (Beth) Cook, a sister in-law, Jackie (Thomas) Harris, many nieces nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Rebecka and her staff at From the Heart Home Care and Adult Foster Care for their compassionate and wonderful care given to Tom.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Jude Thaddeus Parish – St. John the Evangelist Church.  Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery under the auspices of the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m.  Members of the P.L.A.V. Kathleen M. Dockett “Nadolny”

dockett-photo158Kathy passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at McLaren Bay Region age 65 years.  She was born March 4, 1950 in Bay City to the late Clement and Barbara (Pietryga) Nadolny.  Kathy worked at Consumers Energy for over 30 years before retiring.  She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Kathy enjoyed golfing, being with her dog Bella but most of all spending time with her granddaughter, Diamond.  Surviving is her son, Christopher Rubis & Crystal Graham, her daughter, Krystal Rubis & Rudy Maldonado, one granddaughter, Diamond Maldonado and another one on its way, Carter.  Surviving is her aunt, Mary Pietryga, her Godchild, Lori Bublitz, two special cousins: Rita Swincicki, Mary Zarazua and several other cousins.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday April 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 9:00 a.m.  There will be a parish rosary at 2:00 p.m. Sunday followed by a vigil service for Kathy at 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.
