Jane Marie Hertel

     Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 with her family by her side at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 80.  Jane was born March 18, 1934 in Bay City to the late John Augustus and Rosalea Agnes (Groulx) Fritz, II.  She married Arthur R. Hertel on July 28, 1956 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and he predeceased her on June 5, 2004.  She was employed many years ago with Wolverine Knitting Mills and later at Bay Medical Care Facility as an Occupational Therapist.  Jane was very active working in her garden and enjoyed making crafts, knitting, sewing, making quilts and crochet.  She was a former counselor with 4H and loved bowling on Thursday nights at Alert Lanes and later Monitor Lanes.

Surviving are three children: Edward (Colette) Hertel, John “Jack” Hertel and Melanie Hertel, three grandchildren: Danielle, Jennifer and Alissa Hertel, one brother, Edward (Norine) Fritz, one brother in-law, Norman Jahnke, many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jane was predeceased by one grandson, Paul Edward Hertel, one brother, John A. Fritz, III and two sister in-laws, Judith Fritz and Patricia Jahnke.

Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service for Jane will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 6:00pm at Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor Charles Campbell will officiate and inurnment will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 to 6:00pm.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Heartland Hospice.

Edna Helen Holtzapple

holtzapple-photoEdna H. Holtzappleage 94 years passed away Tuesday May 27, 2014 at her home surrounded by her
family.  She was born December 9, 1919 in Arenac Co. to the late Edward A.
and Fannie (Berry) Gawne.  Edna married Marion A. Holtzapple who
predeceased her February 1, 1989.  She was a member of First Pentecostal
Church and life member of the Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary.  Edna loved
spending time with her family and will always be remembered for her delicious
“sticky buns”.
Surviving are her children: Don (Kilcha) Cooley, Leona (Dave) Melden, Rose
Marie Bowen, Robert and Linda Cooley, Janice (Armondo) Ceboles, Wanda (Ronald)
Knapp, Susan Locknane & Richard Vesterfelt, Gerald Holtzapple, Anita
(David) Hicks, James (Laura) Holtzapple, Steve Rice, twenty nine grandchildren,
many great-grandchildren and many many great-great grandchildren.  Also
surviving are two sisters and two brothers: Isabelle “Tiny” Clark, Alvina
Gawne, Alvin Gawne aka Robert Briggs and John Gawne.  She was predeceased
by her former husband, Wesley L. Cooley.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, her care givers Bob and Kathy
and for all the other care givers that took such wonderful care of Edna.
Funeral Service will take place Saturday May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from the
First Pentecostal Church. Pastor Michael Wood will officiate with private
burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on
Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until time of service.  In lieu of flowers those
planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Heartland Hospice.

Genevieve Rose Rezler

rezler-new photoGenevieve Rose Rezler age 93 years passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities.  She was born February 12, 1921 in Bay City to the late Casimer and Rose (Strzelczyk) Janowicz.  She married Chester Rezler April 27, 1940 in St. Hyacinth Church.  He predeceased her February 15, 1980.  Genevieve was the former owner and operator of Cass Ave. Party Store from 1952 to 1987.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church, Altar/Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens.

 

Surviving are eight children: C. Norman (Madeline) Rezler, Richard (Shirley) Rezler, Jeannine (Daniel) Jezowski, Michele Vincent, Gordon Rezler, Frederick Rezler, Theodore Rezler, Laurie (John) Paxton, fifteen grandchildren: Frederick M. Rezler & his fiancé Tara Engstrom, Tamara (Steven) Warner, Marissa Irish, Richard Scott  (Sonja) Rezler, Stephanie (Jason) Goodman, Chris (Katie) Jezowski, Jennifer (Brian) Fuller, Nicholas Jozwiak, Derek, Brianna, Jeffrey, Evan & Sarah Rezler, Casey Brynn Paxton, Jarrett Paxton, thirteen great-grandchildren: Jessica Rezler, Zach, Haley & Serena Warner, Emily & Zachary Irish, Zoe, Mitchell & Alyse Rezler, Benjamin Goodman, Rebecca Jezowski, B.J. & Danielle Fuller, a great-great grandson, Tucker Clarksen and a sister in-law, Sr. Lucy Rezler.  She was predeceased by a son in-law, Blane Vincent and two great-grandchildren: Louis Daniel and Emma May Jezowski.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 P.M. and at the church on Saturday after 10:00 A.M.  Members of St. Hyacinth Rosary/Altar Society will pray the rosary at 2:00 P.M. Friday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Alice M. Dominowski

dominowskiOur loving wife, mother and aunt passed away peacefully Saturday May 24, 2014 at the Toni & Trish House surrounded by her loving family age 89 years.  She was born October 24, 1924 in Bay City to the late Ray and Elizabeth (Oswald) Thomas.  She married Eugene L. Dominowski November 7, 1953 in St. Hyacinth Church and has celebrated over 60 years of marriage, he survives her.  Alice worked at Evenknit Store for many years.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden.

 

Surviving besides her husband Eugene she leaves a son, Thomas Dominowski and a niece Judy (Michael) Phelan.  She was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Weininger.

 

Gene would like to thank George and Mollie Babcock for being such great neighbors and to the Toni and Trish House for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Alice.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday May 29, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. Marie Tomczak

     Marie passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at her home, age 96.  She was born April 21, 1918 in Bay City to the late Michael and Helen (Malowinski) Tomaszewski.  She married Ollie “Alex” Tomczak in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on November 28, 1936 and he predeceased her on September 24, 1999.  Marie was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Felician Sisters Auxiliary and the League of Catholic Men and Women.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are three children: Gerald (Cris) Tomczak, Judith (Jerome) Goretski and Robert Tomczak, twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one brother, Frank (Lois) Tomaszewski and one sister in-law, Tina Tomaszewski.  Marie was predeceased by one son, James Tomczak and three brothers: Floyd (Val), George (Bertha) and Al Tomaszewski.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Rick Filary will celebrate Mass and interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Wednesday after 9:30am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Marie will be held Tuesday at 7:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”

Helen M. Smrecak

smrecakphoto549Helen Smrecak age 91 passed away Wednesday May 21, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region surrounded by her loving family.  She was born March 6, 1923 in Saginaw to the late Lewis and Ruth (Irish) Clark.  Helen married Frank N. Smrecak Sr. January 10, 1942 in St. Norbert Church.  He predeceased her October 5, 2000.  Helen was a member of St. Norbert Church and retired from the Merrit Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  Helen loved to go to the casino, enjoyed reading, shopping and going for daily walks.

 

Surviving are seven children: Sharon Smrecak, Janet (Larry) Brugh, Sandy (Albert) Evans, Jim Smrecak and his friend Carol Gauthier, Stanley Smrecak, Cindy (Paul) Pasant, Don (Lori) Smrecak, twenty two grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother in-law, Russ Morrow, a sister in-law, Patricia Clark, numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Frank N. Smrecak Jr., seven brothers and one sister.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday May 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Norbert Church.  Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with private burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 P.M. and at the church on Saturday after 10:00  A.M.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.
