Helen M. Slaght

slaght photo474Helen passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Carriage House of Bay City, age 89.  She was born May 23, 1924 in Bay City to the late Frank and Frances (Andrzejewski) Wisniewski.  Helen married John W. “Jack” Slaght on June 16, 1951 and he predeceased her on June 15, 2009.  She was a legal secretary for several years at the Bay County Probate Court and a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Surviving are nieces and nephews: Kathy (Jim) Maciag, Jeanne (Craig) Stover, Elizabeth (Chuck) McCadden, Tom (Kris) Michalak, Mary (Lynn) Schramm, Tim (Nancy) Michalak and Larry (Allison) Michalak, several great nieces and great nephews.  Helen was predeceased by one brother, Marian (Delphine) Wisniewski, and two sisters, Leona (Harry) Michalak and Bernadine (Henry) Zielinski.

Cremation has taken place.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Rick Filary will celebrate Mass and private inurnment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00am until the time of Mass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to McLaren Hospice or St. Stanislaus Church.

Virginia E. Rasmus

Virginia was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Red Oak Adult Foster Care age 97.  She was born March 13, 1916 in Bay City to the late Walter and Helen (Szczepanski) Slezak.  Virginia married Marion J. Rasmus February 19, 1938 in St. Hyacinth Church.  He predeceased her June 13, 1990.  Virginia had worked at the Wolverine Knitting Mills.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church and in her early years belonged to the Rosary and Altar Society.  Virginia enjoyed working in her yard and truly loved to visit with people.

 

Surviving is a son and daughter in-law, Roy W. (Patty) Rasmus, one sister in-law, Dolores Swenson, a special niece, Peggy Balcer and many other nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sisters, Henrietta Simpson and Evelyn Campbell.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will officiate with private entombment in FloralGardens Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 – 7 P.M. and at the church on Monday after 9:30 A.M.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Americans Hospice or family wishes.

Rose Lee Travis “Rosie”

     Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Stratford Village in Midland with her family by her side, age 88.  Rosie was born March 26, 1925 in Bay City to the late Russell and Henrietta (McKervey) Thomas.  She married John W. Travis on June 7, 1947 in St. Mary’s Church and he predeceased her on December 7, 2005.  Rosie retired from Dr. Crissey and Dr. Campbell’s offices after several years of dedicated service.  She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was very proud to be the first female lector at church.  She was also a long time member of St. Martha’s Circle.  Rosie was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.  Her love and support often showed in her participation and/or attendance at all of the grandchildren’s events.

Surviving family includes her three children: Paul (Luann) Travis, Richard (Sharon) Travis and Julie (John) Rapisarda, son in-law, Christopher Van Wormer, 13 grandchildren: John (Lindsay) Travis, Matthew (Amanda) Travis, Sarah (Jeffrey) Eichelberger, Robert, Jared, Katie and Peter Travis, Christopher Rapisarda, Rachel Van Wormer, Amelia Rapisarda, Evelyn Travis, Lauren Van Wormer and Jenna Rapisarda, two great grandsons, Connor and Landon Eichelberger, one brother, Richard Thomas of St. Louis, MO, one brother in-law, Irv Andrzejewski of Connecticut, one sister in-law, Nan Thomas, many nieces and nephews.  Rosie was predeceased by a son, Timothy J. Travis on June 20, 2011, a daughter, Amy Van Wormer on October 3, 2011, two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Shaffer and Lou Ann Andrzejewski and one brother, Glen Thomas.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.  Fr. Patrick Jankowiak will celebrate Mass and interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Wednesday after 10:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Rosie will be held Tuesday at 6:00pm at the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or Bay City Central Performing Arts.

Rosie’s family would like to express their gratitude to all of the caregivers who took such loving care of her while she lived at her home in Bay City and at Stratford Village in Midland.

Leonard P. Valliere

Valliere passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at McLarenBay Region age 68 years.  He was born September 3, 1945 in Bay City to the late Leonard J. and Paulyne J. (Veroski) Valliere.  Leonard worked for the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local #816 and was a member of St. Hyacinth Church.

Surviving are two children; Paul Valliere, Michelle Valliere, a daughter in-law, Tina Valliere, three grandchildren, Shane Valliere, Trevor and Sarah Matthew.  Also surviving is one brother, Rodney (Judy) Valliere.  He was predeceased by a son, Jeff Valliere and three brothers, Rick, Tony and Terry Valliere.

Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 4 – 8 P.M.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

William E. Roach “Bill”

roachphoto467Our loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and friend died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Brittany Manor Nursing Home age 83 years.  He was born December 26, 1930 in Bay City to the late John W. and Beatrice (Bowen) Roach.  He married the former Maxine H. Lukowski August 19, 1950 and was married for over 37 years before she predeceased him.  Bill worked at Bay City Chevrolet for over 33 years before retiring in 1981.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, golfer, liked playing cards and enjoyed coaching little league baseball.

 

Surviving are nine children; Yvonne Call, John Roach, Randy (Anna) Roach, Michelle (Tom) Sawyer, Scott (Margie) Roach, Karen Johnson & her husband Dave Seager, Billie Roach, Kyle (Chris) Roach, Jody Roach, twelve grandchildren; Greg Awrey, Todd Roach, Stephanie Groomes, Joshua (Lessie) Sawyer, Andrea Sawyer, Jacob Sawyer, Aaron (Sara) Roach, Alex Roach, Trevor (Brooke) Johnson, Trent Johnson, Arthur (Brittney) Beffrey, Zachary Beffrey and six great grandchildren.  Also surviving is one sister, Beatrice Tilley, three sister’s in-law; Dolores Bock, Betty (Mendell) Cole and Tina Tomaszewski.  He was predeceased by a sister, Joann Roach and a brother Wayne Roach.

 

The family would like to thank McLaren Bay Region-Hospice and Brittany Manor C-West staff for the wonderful care and support they gave to Bill.

 

There will be visitation on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2 – 6 P.M. at the Squires Funeral Home.  Cremation has taken place and there will be a private inurnment at FloralGardensCemetery.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider McLaren Bay Region –Hospice, The American Heart Association or Donor’s Favorite Charity.

Marjorie A. Simunic

Marjorie A. Simunic passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by her devoted husband and daughter age 60 years.  She was born August 8, 1953 in Midland to the late Hugh and Eda (McLean) Miller.  Marjorie married James R. Simunic March 15, 1975 and he survives her.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed working on cross word puzzles.

 

Surviving besides her husband Jim, she leaves a daughter, Jenna Simunic.  She was predeceased by a daughter, Kindra Simunic.

 

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services scheduled at this time.
