Marie Bala Wlodarczak

WlodarczakMarie Bala Wlodarczak age 95 passed Friday, August 30, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region surrounded by her family.  She was born August 1, 1918 in Bay City to the late Paul and Mary (Mazurkiewicz) Bala.  Marie married Frank O. Wlodarczak September of 1939 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  He predeceased her September 26, 1976.  Marie worked at Division on Aging for many years before retiring.  She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and throughout her life she was very active in a variety of parish activities including the Rosary/Altar Society Group # 11 and the Felician Sister’s Auxiliary. 


Surviving are ten children; Sr. Kathleen Wlodarczak C.S.S.F., Madeline (Norman) Rezler, Michael (Mary) Wlodarczak, James (Carol) Wlodarczak, Patrick (Janet) Wlodarczak, Nancy Duval, Ronald (Nancy) Wlodarczak, Rita Wilson, Judi Wlodarczak and Larry (Kim) Wlodarczak.  Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; Tamara (Steven) Warner, Fred Rezler & his fiancée Tara, Marissa Irish, Mark (Taylor) Wlodarczak, Marcey (Kirk) Robinson, Matthew Wlodarczak, Jon (Danielle) Wlodarczak, Eric Wlodarczak, Kenneth (Valerie) David, Josh Wilson, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sons, Kennie & Frankie and three sisters and four brothers; Blanche Delestowicz, Ria Moszyk, her twin sister, Clara Bala, Henry, Bill, Walt and Ed Bala.


Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m.  St. Stanislaus Rosary/Altar Society, Felician Sister’s Auxiliary will pray the rosary at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday followed by a parish vigil service for Marie at 7:00 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Bala Wlodarczak Schlorship at MadonnaUniversity or Family Choice.

George J. Gotowka Jr.

Gotowka Jr. passed away Wednesday August 28, 2013 at the Carriage House age 90 years.  He was born March 22, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late George Sr. and Martha (Ryba) Gotowka.  George married the former Velma L. Graham August 12, 1944 in Saginaw.  He was a business owner for over 68 years where he owned and operated Goodwill Cleaners and later the Goddeyne Plumbing and Heating.  George was a member of the P.L.A.V. and enjoyed archery, tennis and was an avid fisherman and dog lover.


Surviving besides his wife Velma he leaves three children; Cheryl (Dean) Stratton, Gary (Sharon) Gotowka, Terry (Cheryl) Gotowka, six grandchildren; Chris Stratton & his fiancée Katie Stevens, Jason (Melissa) Stratton, Adam Stratton, Tyler (Emily) Gotowka, Austin & Mike Gotowka and a great-granddaughter; Elliette Stratton.  Also surviving is a sister in-law and brother in-law; Donna Greening, Louis Graham and his favorite companions; Hunter and Bella.  He was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary George.


Funeral Service will take place Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Fr. James G. Heller will officiate with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. and on Friday after 10:00 a.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Karen D. Kucera

Bay City, Michigan


     Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away Thursday August 29, 2013 at Genesys Health Systems, age 66.  She was born March 14, 1947 and has lived in Bay City all her life.  Karen married Phillip R. Kucera in St. James Catholic Church on November 5, 1966 and he predeceased her on August 29, 2009.  She was a Tupperware Representative and a cook at Crossroads Restaurant many years ago.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra (fiancé, Mark Habeck) Love and Danielle Case, four grandchildren: Devon and Darian Love, Tyler and Zachary Case, many nieces, nephews and very special friends: Pete Connelly and the Marshall Bourdon Family.  Karen was predeceased by a son, Stephen Joseph Kucera, her mother, Helen (Willette) Ellison, one brother, Orland Ellison, one sister, Kathy Larson and a son in-law, Ronald Case.

The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 7:00pm at Ambrose Funeral Home.  Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00pm.  Memorial contributions may be considered to “family wishes.”

Lawrence D. Laskowski

Laskowski age 63 passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland.  He was born May 21, 1950 in Bay City to the late Virgil and Bernadine (Mindykowski) Laskowski.  Larry married the former Carol Skornia August 1, 1970 at St. Hyacinth and she survives him.  He worked at Grey Iron Foundry for over 30 years before retiring in 2005.  Larry was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, woodworking and truly loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.


Surviving besides his wife Carol, he leaves four children: David Laskowski & Gail Pollick, Ann (Michael) Lytle, Brian Laskowski, Lori (Bradley) Stacer, six grandchildren: Jacob & Hannah Lytle, Ben, Katie, Landon and Logan Stacer.  Also surviving is one brother and three sisters: Paul (Joanne) Laskowski, Judy Adams, Kathy Coones, Helene Awrey & her fiancé Mike Nast, four brother’s in-law and six sister’s in-law: Bruce (Mary Jane) Skornia, Barb Skornia & Mary Scollan, Mary (Tim) Bakle, Marilyn (Don) Allabaugh, Maureen Skornia, Sue (Gary) Manning, Dan (Shirley) Skornia, David (Bonnie) Skornia, Michael Skornia and Joanne Skornia, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends including his bowling and golfing buddies.  He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Annette Laskowski and his mother in-law and father in-law, Henry and Jeanette Skornia.


The family would like to thank the staff at MidMichigan Hospice, U of M Cancer Center, Covenant Health Care of Saginaw and Dr. Struble for the wonderful and compassionate care that was given to Larry.  They would also like to thank Fr. Daniel Roa, Fr. Ed Konieczka and Sr. Mary Epple for their prayers and thoughtfulness.


Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday August 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church.  Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 9:00 a.m.  There will be a parish vigil service for Larry at 7:00 p.m. Friday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or the Toni & Trish House.

Mary R. Smith

smith-photo324Mary went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 27, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region Hospital with her family by her side.  She was born on June 28, 1923 in Pinconning, Michigan.  Mary married Max Smith on August 4, 1947 and they shared 58 years together until Max passed away on April 11, 2005.  Mary loved her family, friends and was very involved in her church throughout her life.  She was a former Red Cross Volunteer and a member of the Bay City Women’s Aglow for 35 years.   She taught Bible Study classes in women’s homes for many years.  She will be remembered for her prayers and encouragement to anyone in need.  She also had a special gift for making flower arrangements.


Surviving family members include a son Kenneth (Carol) Smith, and a daughter, Gayle (William) LaRoche;  three granddaughters, Carrie LaRoche-Sinay and her husband John, Alicia LaRoche and Melissa LaRoche;  six great-grandchildren, Laken Sheridan, Nevaeh LaRoche, Griffin Sinay, Braiden Dinan, Alerah LaRoche, and baby Owen Dinan;  three sister-in-laws, Isabel Byrne, Eleanor Byrne, and Joan (Bob) Kern.  In addition to her husband Max, Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Smith, in 1952, her parents, Richard and Lucy Byrne, five brothers;  Vigil, Woodrow, Eugene, Edwin and Joseph Byrne.


Funeral Service will take place Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 12 noon from the Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor Tom Dinan will officiate with private burial in Oak  Ridge Cemetery.  Friends may call on the family on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 10:00 until time of service at 12 noon.


The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Carriage House for their excellent care of Mary over the last three years.  She loved everyone there like family.  Special thanks to her dear friend Pat Draves for her love, loyalty and prayers.

Roy P. Ayala

Bay City, Michigan


Roy passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region after a courageous three and half year battle with cancer, age 82.  He was born January 6, 1931 in Bay City to the late Herman and Philomena (Allegro) Ayala.  He married Margaret V. Witucki in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on January 7, 1961 and she predeceased him on May 31, 2007.  He was a veteran and served his country with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Roy was employed with Duro Supply Company for 29 years and later with Builders Plumbing and Heating Supply for 18 years.  He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #414.

Surviving are five sons: Roy M. (Dawn), Wayne M. (Kim), Craig M. (Rachel), Kevin M. (Lea) and Scott M. (Joy) Ayala, fifteen grandchildren: Shane, Wesley, Ashley, Eric, Nathan, Ethan, Aubreah, Kyleigh, Connor and Luke Ayala, Tim Wolicki, Shawn, Ryan, Nichols and Alexander Hall, one brother, Frank Ayala, two sisters, Ann Casper and Evelyn Sharrow and two sister in-laws, Patricia Reynolds and Rosemary Rytlewski.  Roy was predeceased by two brothers, George (Janet) Ayala and Joe Ayala, one sister, Mary (Court) Klopp and two brother in-laws, Pete Casper and Gerald Sharrow.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:00am at St. James Catholic Church.  Fr. Robert DeLand will celebrate Mass and graveside interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Saturday after 9:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Bible Presentation for Roy will be held Friday at 5:00pm at the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Pardee Cancer Treatment Fund of Bay County.
