Fr. Vernon J. Sierminski

sierminski-bct195Fr. Vernon J. Sierminski, also known as Fr. Vern passed away Saturday March 30, 2013 at the Bay Medical Care Facility age 83 years.  Son of the late Frank & Mary Ann (Styburski) Sierminski he was born August 18, 1929 in Chicago.  He attended St. Ferdinand School, St. Mel’s School, St. John Berchman School, Cumming School in Fruitport, Sacred Heart School, St. Joseph Seminary in Grand Rapids; The Seminaire de Philosphie, in Montreal; and St. John’s Provincial Seminary, in Plymouth.  Fr. Vern was ordained by Bishop Stephen Woznicki, June 2, 1956 in Saginaw.  He had served as Associate Pastor at St. Hyacinth Parish, Bay City, St. John the Baptist Parish, Standish, St. Casimir Parish, Holy Rosary Parish, both of Saginaw and St. Mary’s Parish in Alpena.  Fr. Vern had been Director of Bay Deanery Sodalities; Father Prior the Columbian Squires of the K of C St. Stephen Council #4102, Spiritual Director for the Legion of Mary in Harrisville, Chaplain for the K of C Alcona Council #4335 and served on the Priest Council for two terms.  Fr. Vern was pastor of St. Anne Parish, Harrisville, St. Hyacinth Parish, Bay City, St. Agnes Parish, Sanford and retired from St. Maria Goretti Parish, Bay City.

 

Surviving is his brother and sister in-law; Arthur (Katharine) Sierminski of Norton Shores, three nephews and two nieces; James (Kathleen Dawson) Sierminski, Thomas Sierminski, David (Patricia) Sierminski, Ellen (Jeff) Stamy, Jeanne (Ken) Wilson, nine great nieces, nephews and cousins and many many dear friends.

 

Art and Kate would like to thank the entire staff at the Bay Medical Care Facility especially the staff on 1 – East for the wonderful and loving care that was given to Fr. Vern over the years.

 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 12:00 noon from St. Maria Goretti Church, 2872 N. Euclid Ave. Bay City.  The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw will preside.  A private burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon.

 

Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. followed by a parish vigil service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Hyacinth Church, 1515 Cass Ave., Bay City.  The Transfer of the Body to lie in state will precede the visitation time at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald F. Wagner presiding.  Visitation will then take place at St Maria Goretti Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Maria Goretti Church.  Funeral Arrangement have been entrusted to the Squires Funeral Home 211 N. Daniel V. Kondziola

kondziola-bct194Daniel Kondziola age 83 surrounded by his family was called home to be with the Lord on Monday March 25, 2013 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. He was born February 14, 1930 in Bay City to the late Maximillian and Angeline (Marciniak) Kondziola.  Dan married the former Mary Cabala October 22, 1955 in St. Mary’s Church 9 mile and she survives him.  He worked for many years at G.M. before retiring.  Dan was a former member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.

 

Surviving besides his wife Mary, he leaves three children;  Debra (John) Duritza, Barbara (Duane) Cole, Diane (Bradford) Sharpe, eight grandchildren; Bill Besson III., Stephen (Michelle) Besson, Danny, Dustin & Ryan DeCatur, Max Sharpe, Nikki Nichols, Branden Cole and three great-grandchildren; Tia, Justin and Emma.  Also surviving are three sisters; Maxine Wisniewski, MaryAnn (Edward) Murphy, Grace Ann Chislea, one sister in-law, Veronica Carlisle and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one sister and two brothers; Delphine (Patrick) Kaczmarek, Jerome & Thomas Kondziola, three brothers in-law; Donald Wisniewski, Ortis Carlisle and Paul Chislea.

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to the I.C.U. staff at the WarMemorialHospital for their wonderful care and to all the special neighbors and friends in Cedarville for looking after Dan and Mary.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday April 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Rick Filary will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Monday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m.  A Parish Vigil Service for Dan will be held Monday at 7:00 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Kathleen R. Zielinski

Zielinski age 70 passed away Tuesday March 26, 2013 at the Bay Medical Care Facility.  She was born October 30, 1942 in Bay City to the late Anthony and Alvina (Dresden) Nalazek.  Kathy married Aloysius “Jim” Zielinski January 18, 1964 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and he survives her.  Kathy was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

 Surviving besides her husband Al, she leaves two children; Connie (Craig) Johnston, Mark Zielinski, two grandchildren; Madison & Gage Zielinski and one brother; Paul Nalazek.  She was predeceased by a daughter; Karen Martin.

 A special thanks to the staff and nurses at the Bay Medical Care Facility 1-West for their wonderful care that was given to Kathy.

 Funeral Service will take place Friday March 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. from the Ambrose Funeral Home.  Sr. Beatrice Plamondon will officiate.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Gerald Aaron Jantzi

Jantzi-bct193We are deeply saddened to announce that Gerald Jantzi of Essexville, Michigan passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Bay Medical Care Facility at the age of 91 as a result of an extended pulmonary illness.  Gerald was born in Oliver, Michigan, the son of the late Aaron and Barbara (Bauer) Jantzi and moved to Bay City in 1939.  He met his wife Evelyn in 1942.  They have been inseparable ever since.  Gerald was an extraordinary example of a devoted husband who loved, cherished and insured that Evelyn was taken care of every day of their 69 years of marriage.  He graduated from Bay City Business College, briefly owned a restaurant and worked for General Motors Grey Iron Foundry in several management positions for 30 years.  He was a man of faith, honor, and integrity; a family man, hunter, fisherman, bowler, golfer, home builder and traveler.  Gerald belonged to St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and was a member of the Athletic Club, St. George Society, Senior Citizens Club and the Usher’s Club.

 

Gerald is survived by his loving wife Evelyn, daughter Cindy and husband Virg Sabin of Glen Allen, Virginia; son Gerry of West Palm Beach, Florida; two granddaughters Jill Pierce of Centreville, Virginia and Lori Sabin of Wilmington, Delaware; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sabrina, Sarah, Savannah and Sean Pierce; sisters in-law Rita Kohn and Agnes Stachowicz; several nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and their families.  He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Schroeppel and a brother, Clarence Jantzi.

 

Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Rick Filary will officiate with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 –5:00 & 6:30- 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m.  Members of St. Stanislaus Parish and the Senior Citizens Club will pray the rosary at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday followed by a parish vigil service for Gerry at 7:00 p.m.

 

The Jantzi family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the Bay County Medical Care Facility 2-West nurses, aides, staff and McClaren Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Gerry.

Edward Nelson

     Mr. Nelson passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region, age 90.  He was born November 23, 1922 in Bangor Township to the late Otis L. and Esther (Parker) Nelson.  Edward married Jennie V. Brinnion on May 24, 1947; she survives him.  He graduated from Bay City Central in 1942 and was a WWII veteran, serving his country during WWII.  Edward retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1981 after 34 years of dedicated service.  He was a member of North Euclid Church of God and its’ building committee.  Edward loved playing baseball in his younger years, hunting and the outdoors.  He coached Little League in Bangor Township for many years and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving is his wife, Jennie, three children: Bonnie (Henry) Eckhardt, Connie (Albert) Trischler and Steven (Lori) Nelson, grandchildren: Scott (Tracy) Lukowski, Brian Friedle, Christina (Tim) McDonald, Dale (Andrea) Friedle, Tara Stewart, Ashley Nelson, Sheryl Nelson, Rachel Mask, Matthew Trischler, Caitlyn (Patrick) Junius and Colin Nelson, many great grandchildren, one brother, Richard (Mona) Nelson, one sister, Patsy (Norman) LeFevre, several nieces and nephews.  Edward was predeceased by two brothers, Otis and Harry and three sisters: Beverly, Celia and Bernice.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00am at North Euclid Church of God, 3430 N. Euclid Ave., Bay City.  Pastor Brad Windlin will officiate.  The Committal Service and Military Honors, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Tuesday after 10:00am.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes” or the American Cancer Society.

Edward J. Nowicki

Nowicki age 82 went home to be with his wife Stella on Sunday March 24, 2013.  He was born August 24, 1930 in Bay City to the late Anthony and Victoria (David) Nowicki.  Ed married the former Stella Dammer January 29, 1955 in St. Hyacinth Church.  She predeceased him May 3, 2008.  Mr. Nowicki worked at Thompson Company for many years.  He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church, former member of the A.C. and helped out on the funeral breakfast.  Ed enjoyed playing blooper ball, camping, fishing and playing euchre.

 

Surviving are two brothers in-law and a sister in-law; Virgil (Ara) Dammer, Donald Dammer, Germaine Dammer and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister; Evelyn Brustmaker, a sister in-law; Dolores Dammer and a brother in-law; Patrick Dammer.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. Edward J. Konieczka will officiate with burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m.  There will be a parish vigil service for Ed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society-Bay Co. Unit or the American Heart Association.
