Jerome R. “Jerry” Nakoneczny

     Jerry passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper, age 76.  He was born December 9, 1937 in Presque Isle, Michigan to the late Karl and Laura (Rickle) Nakoneczny.  Jerry married Pauline Weber in St. Norbert Catholic Church on November 26, 1960 and she predeceased him on October 5, 2007.  He was a veteran and served his country with the US Army.  He was a truck driver and farmer all of his life.  Jerry was a member of St. Norbert Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and the Detroit Tigers.

     Surviving are three children: Jeffrey (Deborah), Lori and Lisa Nakoneczny, six grandchildren: Emily Nakoneczny, Faith Wenglikowski, Victoria Pawlak, Kiara, Zaydrian and Isaiah Price, three great granddaughters: Angel, Mya and Eva, two brothers, Richard (Janet) and LeRoy Nakoneczny and two sisters, Cindy (Bill) Bennet and Teresa Sanders.  Jerry was predeceased by one sister, Mary Ellen Rockwell.

     The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00am at St. Norbert Catholic Church.  Fr. Dale Orlik will celebrate Mass and private inurnment will be at a later date in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of Mass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Parkinson Foundation.

Vernon R. Hine

     Mr. Hine passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Caretel Inns of the Tri-Cities, age 84.  Vernon was born May 21, 1929 in Bay City to the late Frederick W. and Gladys L. (Poirier) Hine.  He married Barbara E. Gray on March 5, 1949 and she survives him.  He was a WWII veteran and served his country with the US Marine Corps.  Vernon was a brick mason for 41 years and a member of the Loyal Order Moose Lodge #169.

     Surviving is his wife, Barbara, two sons, Donald V. Hine and Mark A. (Ann) Hine, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Z. (Pepe) Limon, two great grandsons, Phoenix Diego and Dante Xavier Limon and one brother, Frederick W. (Marilyn) Hine, Jr.

     Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.  There are no visitation hours or services scheduled at the Squires Funeral Home. 

Gary M. Hahn

Hahn-photoGary M. Hahn passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 age 46 years. He was born November 30, 1967 in Wabasha Minnesota.  Gary married the former Beth A. Essex June 30, 1988 and she survives him.  Mr. Hahn served in the U.S. Air Force.   Gary was the former owner of Essex Plumbing and Heating and currently is the owner of Charley’s Grilled Subs.   He was an avid outdoorsmen and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.


Surviving besides his wife Beth, he leaves four children; Lance, Logan & his fiancé, Karol Coulouris, Larissa and Laila Hahn.  Also surviving is his parents, Stanley & Catherine (Lynch) Hahn and four brothers; Vernon Hahn, Lavern (Amy) Hahn, Duane (Anita) Hahn and John Hahn. He was predeceased by his father and mother in-law, David and Elizabeth Essex.


Funeral and committal service will take place Monday, December 23, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Ray Miller and Matthias Wells will officiate with private burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Scholarship Fund for Larissa and Laila Hahn.

Mark D. Sabourin

sabourinphoto411Mark D. Sabourin passed away Friday evening, December 13, 2013 at his home, age 63.  He was born May 10, 1950 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Kenneth & Anna (Larssen) Sabourin. Mark served in the U.S Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War.   He was very passionate about being a member of the Buick Riviera Owners Association.  Mark enjoyed reading, was an avid electronic enthusiast and loved spending time with his family and his cat, Bunter.


Surviving are four children; Tamara Gies & David Sharrow, Heather Sabourin & Dan Somerville, Jason (Danielle) Julian, Jacob Julian, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two brothers, Kim (Renae) Sabourin and Steven Sabourin & Staci McGee.


     The Sabourin family would like to express their gratefulness to Home and Hospice Advantage and to Compassionate Care for their outstanding care given to Mark.


Visitation will take place Friday, December 27, 2013 from 1 – 4 P.M. at the Squires Funeral Home followed by veteran’s honors by the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.

Henry H. ‘Hank” Proderut

Henry H. Proderut passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the McLaren Bay Region age 67 years.  He was born March 16, 1946 to the late John & Clara (Aikens) Elder. He married the former Kathleen (Beauchamp) Proderut May 24, 1969 and she survives him. Henry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

 Surviving besides his wife Kathy are his three daughters; Brenda (Bob) Stender, Kathy (Dave) Evans and Tina Proderut & Keith Rytlewski.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Henry Proderut, Amber & Robert Stender, Haley & Keith Jr. Rytlewski, two brothers, James Proderut, Eugene Elder and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his step-father, Carl Elder and two brothers, William Prodert and Don Elder.


Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor C. William Weis will officiate with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday after 10:00 a.m.   Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Donna Jean Haught

     Donna passed away peacefully Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the age of 54.  The daughter of Dennis Haught and Reiko Kawakami she was born October 13, 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas.  She was a member of the United Family Fellowship Center in Kawkawlin, where she enjoyed her time and friendships at Bible study.

     Donna is survived by three children: Bryan Smith, Kerry (fiancé, Eric Lobodzinski) Myers and Andrew Myers, two sisters, Gail Shortlidge and Carol (Richard) Koebel, one brother, Scott (Tamie) Haught, nephews and nieces: Nicholas and Joshua Koebel, Nicole, Bethany, Brandon and Desari Haught, and special friend, Hank Boyle.  Donna was predeceased by her father, Dennis Haught and her brother in-law, Joe Shortlidge.

     The Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 16, 2013 at 10:00am at Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor David Valley will officiate and private interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00pm and Monday after 9:00am.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the United Family Fellowship Center.
