Ricky A. McGrandy

Ricky passed away at his home Friday, December 28, 2012, age 54.  He was born August 13, 1958 in Saginaw, MI to the late Tuffield A. and Elsie M. (LaFray) McGrandy.  He married Pamela S. Callahan on July 28, 1978; she survives him. Ricky retired from Bay Metro Transportation and loved cooking and grilling.  He enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife, Pamela are seven children: April, Robert (Emily), Jeremy (fiancé, Sarah) McGrandy, Melissa (Scott) Foote, Tiffani (Matt) Dean, Rebecca and Elizabeth McGrandy, nine grandchildren, one sister, Beatrice (Gerald) Darby, Ricky’s foster mother, Carol Baker and her daughter, Andrea.  Ricky was predeceased by his foster father, Richard Baker, one brother, Timothy McGrandy and one sister, Rebecca Baker.

Family and friends will gather at Squires Funeral Home on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 1:00 to 7:00pm.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”

     Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed awayFriday, December 28, 2012 with her family by her side, age 61.  She was bornApril 19, 1951 in Kawkawlin to the late Edward and Dorothea (Deller) LaLonde.  Judy married Daniel P. VanSumeren onMay 2, 1970 and he survives her.  She owned and operated Michelle’s Hair Boutique for over 35 years.  Judy and Dan also owned and operated Van’s Clean-up Crew for the past ten years.  She was a member of theChurch ofSt. Boniface.  She enjoyed crafts, knitting and cooking for various activities at church and her family.  Judy loved spending time with her beautiful grandchildren.  She also made holidays very memorable and special for her family.

     Surviving besides her husband, Daniel are five children: Michelle (Robert) Smith, Christopher (fiancé, Amy Boyk) VanSumeren, Amanda (William) Beam, Andrew (girlfriend, Stephanie Ostash) VanSumeren and Eric (girlfriend, Kymber Lynch) VanSumeren, special “son” to Judy, Joshua Lambert, six grandchildren: Lexi, Jordyn and Nolan Smith, Analece, Kaleb and Sophia Beam, three brothers: Duwaine (Marsha), Edward (Fran Panko) and William (Cathy) LaLonde, two sisters: Shirley (Edward) Rajewski and Debra Rowloff, two brothers in-law, Robert Groya and Stan (Janet) VanSumeren, one sister in-law, Kathy VanSumeren, best friend, Jan Lambert and her daughter, Jillian, many nieces and nephews.  Judy was predeceased by one sister, Sharron Groya, three brothers in-law: Joseph Rowloff, David VanSumeren and James (Rita) Michalski and one sister in-law, Patricia LaLonde.

     The Funeral Mass will be celebratedMonday, December 31, 2012at10:00amat theChurchofSt. Boniface.  Fr. Dale Orlik will celebrate Mass and interment will follow inSt.PatrickCemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Sunday from11:00amto8:00pmand at church on Monday after9:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Judy will be held Sunday at7:00pmat the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”

     The family would like to thank McLaren Emergency Room, 3rd floor 3- East and Bay Area Health Clinic nurses and staff for their kind and compassionate care they extended Judy and her entire family.

Margaret M. Phillips

Mrs. Phillips, age 83,  died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at her home.  Daughter of the late Nelson L., II and Anna (Lachajewski) Sayen, she was born September 25, 1929 inBay City.  Margaret married Donald Phillips on December 31, 1945.  He predeceased her February 9, 1994.  Margaret in her early years worked for Graphic Metals.  She also helped on with Meals on Wheels and was an in home healthcare aide.  Margaret was a life long member of St. Mary of theAssumptionChurchand a former member of the Altar Society.  She enjoyed playing bingo.

 

Surviving are two children;  Mark L. (Ann) Phillips, Sr., Debbie (Dan) Sawyer, eleven grandchildren;  Mark II, Matthew, Ryan Phillips, Melissa (Steve) Bergey, Samantha (Carl) Oswald, Shane (Crystal) Sawyer, Farrah (Gabriel) Velazquez, Angela (Jon) Miller, Craig Marquardt, Larry (Sara) VanMullekom and Lauriel (Craig) Major.  Fifteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by one son, Craig Phillips, two grandchildren; Danny and Shaun Sawyer and three sisters and three brothers.

 

The family would like to thank Margaret’s grandson, Matthew for the wonderful care that he gave his grandmother for the past five and a half years.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Mary of theAssumptionChurch.  Rev. Fr. Craig Albrecht will officiate with private burial inSt.Patrick’s Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time ofMass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Salvation Army or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Allan J. Short “Big Al”

Allan J. Short passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 27, 2012, age 55 years. He was born on February 25, 1957 inSt. JohnNew Brunswick,Canada.  He worked for D.A. Munger Security.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Brenda (Edsall) Short; his son Allan R. Short; two granddaughters;  Nevaeh and Aubrey, three step-daughters; Ashley Logan, Bridgit Neal, and Heather Neal.  He also survived by his mother, Dolly (Don) Smith; brother, Edward (Nancy) Short, sisters;  Nancy Short, AnnMarie (Randy) Gremel, Brenda (Angelo) Masut and one niece and three nephews.  He is predeceased in death by his father, Edward Short, one brother, William Short and a nephew, Joshua Short.

 

Funeral Service will take place Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Chaplain Denise Taglauer will officiate.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 noon until time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Shirley J. Drzewicki

Mrs. Drzewicki age 87 died peacefully Thursday December 27, 2012 at her home.  Daughter of the late John & Mildred (Denis) Countegan, she was born February 9, 1925 in Bay City.  She married Bernard “Ben” Drzewicki April 29, 1950 in St. Boniface Church.  He predeceased her May 27, 2007.  Shirley was a lifelong member of The Church of St. Boniface.  She also belong to the K of C Ladies Auxiliary #4102, monthly card club, , Tuesday afternoon lunch bunch, McLaren Cardiac Rehab where she attended since 2001.

 

Surviving are five children: Denis (Tammy) Drzewicki, John (Sally) Drzewicki, Susan (Galen) Kaliszewski, Carol (Dr. Steve) Hickner, Amy (James) Jones, thirteen grandchildren; Scott (Kelly) Drzewicki, Jeff (Rachael) Drzewicki, Andy (Tressa) Sosnowski, Bonnie (Matt) Theisen, Angela Drzewicki, John Drzewicki & his fiance’ Peggy Weiler, Leah Kaliszewski & Albert, Corey (Derek) Johnson, Steve, Mary & Daniel Hickner, Jacqueline & Ian Jones and eight great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two brothers in-law and a sister in-law: James (Celina) Drzewicki, Mike (Jan) Drzewicki, Dolores (Ron) Trombley and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a grandson; Evan Kaliszewski, one brother; John Countegan and a sister; Yvonne Canfield.

 

The family would like to thank the Hatch Rd. Neighbors for watching over Shirley and Ben over the years.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday January 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from the Church of St. Boniface.  Rev. Fr. Dale Orlik will officiate with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 – 5 & 6 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday after 9:00 a.m.  There will be a parish vigil service for Shirley at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider, Church of St. Boniface, St. Vincent DePaul Society of Bay City or Donor’s Favorite Charity.

My Children have made my life most meaningful and made me feel very alive and necessary.  Be there for one another to grieve and to love.  Don’t worry about anything, pray about everything and be thankful.  Most of us believe we are given life for a purpose- you my children are my purpose.

Lloyd W. Cunningham Jr.

Lloyd W. Cunningham Jr. passed away suddenly on December 24, 2012 at his mother’s home age 48.  He was born November 19, 1964 in Phoenix, AZ.  He had worked at Ford Motor Company for over 10 years.  He enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his grandson Gage.

 

Surviving are three sons: Daniel, Christopher and Lloyd III. and one grandson, Gage.  Also surviving is his mother: Mary Lou (Cummings) Cunningham, four brothers and four sisters: Thomas M. (Kathy) Christian, Richard A. (Rio) Christian, Tamara S. DeNell, Brian S. Christian, Victoria A. VanSumeren, Leonard W. Cunningham, Kelly A. (Kurt) Werth, Shelly A. (Jeff) Gerhardt and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father: Lloyd Sr., two brothers and a sister: Kenneth & David Christian and Mary Jo Cunningham.

 

A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
