Helen Marie Roberts (Schumann)

Helen age 86, went to her eternal peace Saturday September 24, 2011 at Brian’s House.  She was born in January 27, 1925 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Edward J. “Ted” and Rachel (Rivet) Schumann as the sixth of their twelve children. 

 

A graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Helen served in the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II.  She devoted nearly forty years of her life to her profession, caring for patients and mentoring nurses.  She was a surgical nurse for many years in Bay City.  She loved her time on pediatrics though she ran a burn unit at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Lake Worth, Florida.  Helen retired from nursing as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Tolfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch, MI. 

 

After learning computer skills at age 71, Helen embarked on her final career as a billing clerk for The DBS Companies for over fifteen years.  She worked until the month prior to her death. 

 

She is survived by her daughters: Rachelle “Shelly” (Charles) Lowery and Randy Marie (Mark) Daigler; daughter in-law, Patricia (Rabish) Roberts.  Helen had three grandsons: Lance (Kathy) Bushnell, Jason (Andra) Cooley, Matthew Daigler and his dearest Stefania Samayoa, four granddaughters: Amy Daigler (Aaron Andersen), Jessica Daigler (Shawn Fergus), Amanda (Matthew) Lopez, and Barbara (John) Arrient.  Blessed with twelve great grandchildren she took joy in Alexander, Zachery, Erik, Stuart, Ayden, Briana, Hailey, Marissa Cora, Mia, Vivian, and her namesake Beatrice Helen.  Helen had the pleasure of having 47 nieces and nephews from her eleven siblings.  Helen is also survived by her sister Geraldine (Donald) Beson, and sisters-in-law, Betty (James “Bud”) Schumann and Julia (A.J. “Al”) Hubert, and her three God-children: Donald DeMatio, Suzanne (Hubert) Reynolds and Edward Schumann. Helen will be missed by her dear friends Leonard and Joan Kaczarowski, and Betty Schable. 

 

Helen was predeceased by her only son Robert L. Roberts.  She was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers and in-law siblings, Genieve (Earl) Denomme, Katherine (Edward) Stokoe, LeRoy (Lucille) Schumann, James “Bud” (Ellen) Schumann, Louise (Eugene) DeMatio, Patricia (Max) Leitermann, EJ “Mike” (Yvonne) Schumann, Mary Ellen (Robert) Grout, Carol (A.J. “Al”) Hubert, Bernadette “Sally” (Theodore “Ted”) Ciaciuch, Donald Beson and predeceased by her nephew Jack Norton and nieces Jill Campbell, Pam Asevedo, Janet Reaume, Joanne Schumann.

 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday September 29th at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church, 1008 S. Wenona Street.   Fr. Bert Gohm will celebrate Mass and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm, Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Thursday after 9:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Helen will be held Wednesday at 6:30pm.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Brian’s House or Holy Trinity Church.

Bernice A. Rozewski

     Bernice passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Bay Special Care, age 89.  She was born October 9, 1921 in Bay City to the late Anthony and Helen (Malak) Maciag.  She married Alec C. Rozewski; he predeceased her on June 3, 1995.  Bernice worked for many years at Kuhlman Electric and later at the Holiday Inn of Bay City.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church and when Bernice was in better health, she enjoyed helping around church and cleaning.  Bernice loved spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     Surviving is one son, Paul and Sandy Rozewski, three grandchildren: Charles (Stephanie) Rozewski, Jr., Alan (Christine) Rozewski and Patti (Bill) Golden, five great grandchildren: Todd and Jessica Rozewski, Marley and Sunny Golden and Hayden Rozewski, one sister, Rose Flues, many nieces and nephews.  Bernice was predeceased by a son, Charles Rozewski, Sr., four sisters and four brothers.

     The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 10:00am at St. Hyacinth Church.  Fr. George Serour will celebrate Mass and interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and at church on Tuesday after 9:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Bernice will be held Monday at 7:00pm from the funeral home.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”

Carol J. Cornelius

Carol passed away suddenly on Wednesday September 21, 2011 age 70.  Daughter of the late John & Helen Sullivan she was born February 20, 1941 in Bay City.  She married William J. Cornelius and he predeceased her.

 Surviving are six children; Laura Cyfers, Curtis (Ruth) Cornelius, Amy (Rick) Cornelius, Bethany (Don) LaRoche, Jamie (Lee) Cornelius, Adam Cornelius, a daughter in-law; Mary Cornelius, 16 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two brothers and a sister; Tom (Julie) Sullivan, John (Beverly) Sullivan, Eileen (Ben) Seymour and a dear friend; Harold Eichenger.  She was predeceased by four children; Lynda, Scott, Kellie & Craig Cornelius and two great-grandchildren; Shontae and Donavin.

 Funeral and committal service will take place Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Squires Funeral Home.  Sr. Mary Epple R.S.M. will officiate.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time of service.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.

Marie C.  Leppek age 85 passed away Sunday September 18, 2011 at Brian’s House surrounded by her family.  Daughter of the late Joseph & Mary (Lobodzinski) Magryta she was born May 25, 1926 in Bay City.  She married Edward F. Leppek Jr. November 17, 1945 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  He predeceased her September 23, 1998.  Marie was formerly employed at Servomation.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church, Rosary Society, Felician Sister’s Auxiliary and the League of Catholic Women and Men.  Marie enjoyed knitting, crocheting and writing poetry.

 Surviving are three children; Judith Webb, Thad (Lisa) Leppek, Joseph (Brigitte) Leppek, six grandchildren; Tamara, Timothy, Michael, Joseph, Alexandra, Jacob Leppek and five great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are three sisters and a brother; Bernice Kopec, Evelyn (Maciag) Suchodolski, Angeline (Joseph) Kravat and Joseph (Irene) Magryta.  She was predeceased by a son; Timothy Leppek, a granddaughter; Katharine Leppek, a great-granddaughter; Breana Leppek, three sisters; Clara Magryta, Anna (Raymond) Klass, Virginia (Leonard) Matuszewski, two brothers; Edward (Dorothy)Magryta, Eugene (Virginia) Magryta and a brother in-law; Frank Kopec.  

 Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday September 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Rev. Fr. Edward J. Konieczka will officiate with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 9:00 a.m.  Members of St. Hyacinth Rosary Society and the Felician Sister’s Auxiliary will pray the rosary at 2:00 p.m. Friday followed by a parish vigil service for Marie at 7:00 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Hyacinth Church.

Herbert S. Wood “Herb”

     Herb passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 74.  He was born September 1, 1937 in Flint, MI to the late Squire and Hazel (Bard) Wood.  Herb grew up in the River Rouge area most of his younger life and was a tremendous athlete.  He was an All State basketball player and cross country runner during his high school and college years at Western Michigan University.  Herb was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and retired from Saginaw Grey Iron after 30 years of dedicated service.  He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge in Tawas, Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed fishing and golf.

     Surviving are three children: Cindy (James) Wood Randazzo, Richard (Boryana) Wood and Debra (John) Cataldo, their mother, Patricia (LaLonde) Wood, eleven grandchildren: Lindsay and Haley Randazzo, David, Alex, Dylan, and Brandon Wood, Jack, Jessica, Julia, Joseph, and Jianna Cataldo, one great granddaughter, Adelynn Wood, one sister in-law, Lizbeth Mellor and brother in-law, Doug Schweitzer.  Herb was predeceased by his step-father, Claude Mellor, two brothers: Melvin and Thomas Mellor and two sisters: Patricia (Peter) Keen and Jeanette Schweitzer.

     The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church.  Fr. Thomas Patrick Scott

Mr. Scott passed away Tuesday September 13, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family age 63.  Son of the late William & Dorothy (McGinniss) Scott he was born April 27, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, New York and moved to Florida in 1970.  Tom worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in the Department of Commerce.

 Surviving are two daughters; Unissa Halasinski-Scott, Coral Vincent & her two children; Adrianna Piatkowski, Tyler Vincent and several brothers and sisters.

 A Memorial Service will take place Saturday September 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Rev. Fr. Rick Filary will officiate followed by military rites by the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Family and friends may call at the church only on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
