Obituaries

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, Robert J. Krawczyk died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 71.  Son of the late Isadore and Helen (Tarkowski) Krawczyk, he was born February 25, 1940 in Bay City.  Bob married Ruth (Franek) April 23, 1966.  She survives him.  He served in the U.S. Army and later retired from General Motors in 1999.  Bob was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, St. Stan’s A.C., League of Catholic Women and Men, St. George Society, Pulaski Club and Amvets.  Bob loved golfing, fishing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Surviving besides his wife; Ruth he leaves three sons; James (Theresa) Krawczyk, Russ (Rebecca) Krawczyk, Brian Krawczyk, four grandchildren; T.J., Trevor, Beau and Clara Krawczyk.  Also surviving is a sister; Geraldine Welter, brothers; Norbert (Janet) Krawczyk, Fred (Liz) Krawczyk and sister-in-law; Pat Krawczyk.  He was predeceased by a brother; Daniel Krawczyk and brother-in-law; Jack Welter.

The family would like to thank Melissa, Kelee, Stella, Jenn and Chuck in the Critical Care Unit of Bay Regional Medical Center for the thoughtfulness and wonderful care of Bob.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday April 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.  Fr. Christian Tabares will officiate followed by military honors by the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Private entombment will take place at St. Patrick Mausoleum at a later date.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday after 9:00 a.m.   There will be a parish rosary service at 2:00 p.m. Friday followed by a vigil service for Bob at 7:00 p.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Stanislaus Parish Development Fund.

Pabalis Paul Andrew

Bay City, Michigan

Paul passed away Monday morning March 28, 2011 at Brian’s House age 50.  He was born January 20, 1961 in Bay City.  Paul married the former Karen Fritz on May 15, 1982 in Bay City, she survives him.  He worked for the Bay County Division on Aging. Paul enjoyed going camping, fishing and cooking.

Surviving besides his wife Karen, he leaves three children; Lindsay, Chelsea and Danielle Pabalis.  Also surviving is his mother; Martha Colton, step-mother; Jeannie Pabalis, mother-in-law & father –in-law:  Laura & Bill Fritz, Grandmother, Barbara Fritz, two brothers and two sisters:  Richard (Tina) Pabalis, James (Cindy) Pabalis, Diane Pabalis and Susan Pabalis, one step brother and two step-sisters.  Three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law:  Bill Fritz & Vicki, Tammy (Troy) DeRosia, David (Kim) Fritz, Jason (Rachel) Fritz, close friend, Bob Pawlak and many, many friends.  He was predeceased by his father, Donald Pabalis and step-father, Richard Colton.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. from Holy Trinity Church.  Fr. Bert Gohm will officiate.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at the church on Friday after 9:00 A.M.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Bay County Division on Aging, Brian’s House or Holy Trinity Church.

Bay City, Michigan

     Gene passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Linwood Residence AFC Home, age 91.  He was born May 7, 1919 in Detroit, MI to the late Edward M. and Hattie (Szutkowski) Plachta.  He married Doris R. Woehlke on April 24, 1946; she predeceased him on March 6, 1984.  He was a WWII veteran and served his country with the US Army.  Gene retired from Michigan Bell Telephone in 1975 after 35 years of service and was a Real Estate Agent/Broker for many years after his retirement. Gene was a life member of St. James Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4102.  He was an avid golfer and helped organize several golf trips to Kentucky with his friends.  He was the first golf coach at St. James High School and a faithful supporter of Catholic Education.  Gene enjoyed writing poetry, pheasant and deer hunting, gardening, bird watching and traveling to the Gulf Shores.

     Surviving are two daughters and one son, Phyllis (Michael) Banaszak, Jeannine (Gary) Simon, and Thomas (Mary Sue) Plachta, six grandchildren: Christopher, Todd, and Chad Simon, Robert (fiancé, April) Banaszak, Scott (Andrea) Plachta and Patrick Plachta, one great grandson, Jack D. Plachta, seven sisters: Judy, Angie, Joanie, Alice, Dolly, Tootsie and Patsy and Gene’s companion for several years, Mida Hawkins.  Gene was predeceased by two brothers: Edward and Jerry and two sisters: Katie and Barbara.

     The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00am at St. James Catholic Church.  Fr. Robert DeLand will celebrate Mass and interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00pm and at church on Monday after 10:00am.  A Parish Vigil Service for Gene will be held Sunday at 4:00pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. James Grade School.

Bay City, Michigan

     Our loving mother, grandmother and sister passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Carriage House of Bay City, age 84.  She was born July 23, 1926 in Bay City to the late William and Olga (Licht) Bureau.  Dorothy enjoyed and shared many great memories of working for 15 years at Mercy Hospital and later Bay Medical Center.  She also enjoyed shopping, puzzles and lending a helping hand to her sons or anyone in need.

     Surviving are her three sons: Michael (Pam), Richard (Deb), and Steven (Pattye) Loll, six grandchildren: Erica, Terry, Beckey, Walter, Sandra, and Tiffaney, nine great grandchildren and one on the way, one sister, Betty Fogelsinger, special niece, Janet Ballor, many other nieces and nephews.  Dorothy was predeceased by a brother, Robert (Loretta) Bureau and a brother in-law, Robert Fogelsinger.

     Per Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  No visitation or services will be at Squires Funeral Home.

     The family would like to thank all the staff at Carriage House for their kind and compassionate care they gave Dorothy and her family.  And a special thank you to our angel messenger, Leila at the Carriage House.  Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Bay City, Michigan

     Our loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 79.  She was born April 6, 1931 in Pinconning to the late Hugh and Ethel (Ryan) Groh.  Dorothy married Christopher F. Cline on July 14, 1951; he survives her.  She loved her family and devoted her life to care for them and anyone in need.  Like a true mother, she had a big heart and open arms at all times.

     Surviving besides her husband, Christopher are three daughters: Deborah Cline, Sherry Hill and Michelle (Richard) Wrathell, six grandchildren: Holly (Brad) Velding, Ashley Bowker, Kristy (Ryan) Haut, Rocky Bowker, Kristen (fiancé, Van Davis) Hill, and Brandon (Amanda) Cline, eight great grandchildren and one on the way, two brothers: Bernard (companion, Betty) Groh and James (Elaine) Groh and one sister, Eleanor (companion, Ted) Stuck.  Dorothy was predeceased by two daughters, (infant) Amy and Wendy Cline and eight brothers and sisters.

     The Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00am at Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor Daniel Hester will officiate and interment will be in Woodmere Cemetery in Standish/Sterling.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00am until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to “Family Wishes.”

Standish, Michigan

     Lucille passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Elm Home in Standish, age 75.  She was born February 20, 1936 in Bay City to the late John “Jack” and Sally (Matuszewski) Kuras.

     Surviving is a brother in-law, Don Watz, one niece, Linda (Paul) Pietrzak, and three nephews: David (Jan) Watz, Tom (Karolyn) Watz and Don (Julie) Watz.  Lucille was predeceased by her sister, Elaine Watz.

     The Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:00am at Floral Gardens Cemetery Chapel.  Fr. Richard M. Filary will officiate.  There is no visitation hours scheduled at Ambrose Funeral Home.
