Mrs. Gowan passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 86. Dorothy was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in 1924. She was the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Byrne) Naumes, the ninth of ten children. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1998. She lived in Bay City over 45 years and was a member of St. James Church and Altar Society. Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1942. She then attended Central Michigan University and graduated in Music. She played the organ at Sacred Heart for many years. After marrying and raising her loving family of five she kept up with her love of music on the piano. In later years she had her own antique business which she really enjoyed.
Dorothy is survived by five children: John P. and Kathy McGowan, Susan French, Pat and Bob Bartos, Tim and Lisa McGowan, and James C. and Lori McGowan, ten grandchildren: Blair, Colleen, Rich, Chris McGowan, Daniel French, Alex McGowan, Mark and Matthew Bartos, Patrick and Jeremy McGowan, several great grandchildren, one sister, Frances Bell and one brother, John Naumes, one brother in-law, Frank Courter, many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by three brothers: Joseph, Michael and Bernard Naumes, four sisters: Helen Webster, Gen Jones, Betty Courter, and Katie Loop and two sister in-laws, Emily Naumes and Margaret Naumes.
The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00am at Ambrose Funeral Home. Nancy Rivet will officiate. Private interment will be held in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. James Church or Grade School.
