     Norma, age 88, passed away peacefully Monday, August 31, 2009 at her residence.  She was born August 21, 1921 in Patton, PA to the late John and Fanny (Willoughby) Hickson.  She married John H. Denner, Jr. on January 15, 1944 and he predeceased her on May 21, 2003.  Norma loved spending time with her grandson, John Henry and vacationing with her husband and family at Black Lake.  She enjoyed cooking, reading, cross stitch, and crossword puzzles.

     Surviving are two children; Nancy (Larry) Kratz and John H. (Debora) Denner, III, one grandson, John Henry Denner IV, several nieces and nephews.  Norma was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.

     The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 11:00am at the Squires Funeral Home.  Pastor Jeff Glover will officiate and interment will follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm and Thursday after 10:00am.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to “Family Wishes.”

      kuceraphotoOur loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Brian’s House with his family and friends by his side, age 63.  Phillip was born May 2, 1946 in Bay City to the late Michael J. and Harriet M. (Stefanski) Kucera.  He married Karen D. Ellison in St. James Church on November 5, 1966 and she survives him.  He was a veteran and served his country during the Vietnam Era with the US Army Reserves.  Phillip retired from Steering Gear in 1996 and later drove vehicles for Graff Chevrolet.  He was a very devoted family man and wonderful husband.  He enjoyed vacations up-north with his family, boating, fishing, camping, and NASCAR.

     Surviving besides his wife, Karen are two daughters; Debra Love (her fiancé, Mark Habeck) and Danielle (Ronald) Case, four grandchildren; Devon and Darian Love, Tyler and Zachary Case, nieces, nephews and very special friends; Marshall Bourdon Family and Pete Connelly.  Phillip was predeceased by a son, Stephen Joseph Kucera and a brother, Gerald M. Kucera.

     Members of the Bay County Veterans Council will offer Military Honors for Phillip on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 7:30pm at the Ambrose Funeral Home.  Fr. Robert DeLand will celebrate the Funeral Service immediately following the Military Honors.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00pm.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Brian’s House or “Family Wishes.”

      betzoldphotoDon passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at his residence, age 65.  He was born November 18, 1943 in Bay City to the late Adolph and Lila (Zimmer) Betzold, Sr.  He married Patricia H. Simmons on July 20, 1963 and she survives him.  Don was employed with Green Hills Golf Course for many years and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and playing cards.

     Surviving besides his wife, Patricia are two children; Donald Betzold, Jr. and Tammy (Lee) Schultz, two grandsons; Wayne and Jake Schultz, two brothers; Ronald and Ray (Gala) Betzold, one sister, Faye Buzzard and two sister in-laws; Onley Mae and Sandra Betzold.  Don was predeceased by four brothers and a sister.

     Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Don’s life will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00pm at Tammy’s home; 2915 Douglas Drive, Bay City, Michigan 48706.

      lafavephotoJerry, age 76, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Bay Regional Medical Center.  He was born December 4, 1932 in Bay City to the late Edmund J. and Flossie G. (Julian) LaFave.  Jerry married Estella M. “Rusty” Scott on February 12, 1955 and she survives him.  He was a US Army veteran and retired from Dobson Heavy Haul after several years of dedicated service.

     Surviving besides his wife, Rusty, are three sons; Bruce (Carole), Jim and Dave LaFave, five grandchildren; Bill LaFave, Darlene (Odis) Wainwright, Melissa (Emilio) Reyes, Kenny Tilley and Angie (Nick) Thomas, five great grandchildren; Terrence, Caleb, Connor, Veronica, and Victoria, two sisters; Ceil (Gene) Dewyse and Barb Gulczinski, two sister in-laws; Dorothy and Dolores LaFave.  Jerry was predeceased by two brothers; Leon and Ernest LaFave and a sister, Evelyn Hubbard.

Mary Lou Gower

      Miss Gower passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at her residence, age 54.  She was born November 6, 1954 in Bay City to the late Victor and Delores (Green) Gower. 

     Surviving is her lifelong companion, Robert Harris, a brother, Royal “Buz” (Joan) Gower and a sister, Carol (Lloyd Hartley) Zarasua.  Mary Lou was predeceased by two brothers; Robert and Jerry Gower.

     Per Mary Lou’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation or services at the Ambrose Funeral Home.

Michael Paul Morris

morris - bctMike passed away suddenly Monday August 24, 2009 as a result of a car accident age 61 years. He was the son of the late Francis & Jean (Rada) Morris and was born February 9, 1948 in Bay City.  He married the former Lois Lynch, July 8, 1989.  She survives him.  Mike served in the U.S. Army as an infantry squad leader with A Co. 2/22 Mech 25th Infantry Division from March 1967- March 1968 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.  Mr. Morris was owner and operator of Darius Industrial and Recovery Team.  Mike was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church and enjoyed golfing, sailing and hunting.

Surviving besides his wife Lois he leaves three children; Brent (Lisa) Morris & their children; Emma & GraceAnn of Parrish FL., Amy Morris & her daughter Brooke of Leslie, MI., Erin Brady of Essexville and his mother in-law; Clara Lynch.  Also surviving are his six brothers- in-law and four sisters- in-law; Charles (Connie) Lynch, Joanie Boulton, Donna (Patrick) Jacobs, Maureen (Chuck) Groya, Don (Andrea) Lynch, Allan Lynch, Roger (Wendy) Lynch, Kathy (Terry) Pashak, Tim (Pam) Lynch, Kellen (Mary Jo) Lynch, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two brothers; Pat and Randy Morris.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Vincent DePaul Church.   Rev. Fr. Robert J. Meissner will officiate.  The United States Army will conduct a military service at the church with a private burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass.  There will be a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Disability Resource Center or New Dimensions.
