Walter J. Pijaszek

Walter J. PijaszekMr. Pijaszek passed away Thursday July 30, 2009 at Brian’s House surrounded by his family, age 74 years.  Son of the late Michael & Mary (Nosek) Pijaszek, he was born March 23, 1935 in Bay City.  He married the former Lois A. Mrozinski May 12, 1962 in St. Anthony Church of Fisherville.  She survives him.  Walt worked at R.W.C. Inc. for 42 years before retiring.  He was a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul Church, a life member of St. George Society and Pulaski Hall, a former member of the Chopin Choral Society and the Polish Singer Alliance of America.  Walt was a 50 year member of the K of C Msgr. Eugene A. Forbes Council #3590, a member of the U.S. Steel Workers Union #5187 and served 4 years with the Michigan National Guard Medical Corps.  He enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, hunting, fishing, and picking mushrooms.  Walt was an avid golfer; he enjoyed building golf clubs, woodworking, arts & crafts, playing cards with his K of C brothers in Auburn and helping them out on their fish fry’s.  One of Walt’s biggest treasures was his seven grandsons.  He and Lois were always busy traveling to and from baseball & basketball games, birthday parties and all occasions pertaining to their lives.

Surviving besides his wife Lois he leaves four children; Mark (Lisa) Pijaszek, Brian Pijaszek, Lisa Norman, Ken (Lori) Pijaszek, seven grandsons; Adam, Benjamin, Chad, Justin & Kyle Pijaszek, Alex and Kirk Norman.  Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters; Richard (Carol) Pijaszek, Robert (Mary Jo) Pijaszek, Rose Marie Zaucha, Bernadine (David) Payne, two sisters in-law; Phyllis (Ronald) Gerulski, Nancy Mrozinski and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his mother in-law and father in-law; Louis & Selma Mrozinski, two brothers in-law; Peter Zaucha, Richard Mrozinski and a niece; Mary Lou Zaucha.

The family would like to thank Dr. Reddy, Dr. Cook, Dr. Kule, Bay Regional Medical Center Ambulance Department along with the nurses on 6 –west for their kindness and care.  They would also like to thank Dr. Parmer, Janet Beattie and the entire staff at Brian’s House and Bay Special Care for their compassion during Walt’s illness.  Love you all!

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday August 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Vincent DePaul Church.  Rev. Fr. Robert J. Meissner will officiate with entombment in St. Patrick Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 -8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m.  There will be a parish vigil service for Walt along with a Bible presentation at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Vincent DePaul Church, Brian’s House or Tony & Trish House in Auburn.

Adolph Alfred “Sonny” Taylor

Mr. Taylor died Sunday July 26, 2009 at his home age 72 years.  He was born November 12, 1936 in Bay Port, Michigan.  He married the former Betty Broom and she survives him.

Surviving besides his wife Betty he leaves six children; Linda (Bill) LaLone, Barbara Boch, Mary (David) Richmond, Debra Taylor, Larry Taylor, Michele McAlpine, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his mother; Mary (Shall) Taylor, one brother and a sister; Robert (Sue) Taylor and Edith French.  He was predeceased by his father; Henry Taylor.

A Memorial Service will take place Thursday July 30, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from First Congregational Church with military rites following by the Bay County Veteran’s Council.  Friends may call at the church only on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until time of service.

Gerald G. Thompson

Gerald G. Thompson Gerald passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 93.  He was born August 8, 1915 in Bay City to the late Joseph and Laverne (Herrick) Thompson.  Gerald enjoyed bowling and retired from Consumers Power Company in 1975 with over forty years of dedicated service.
Surviving are three children; Marie (James) Gasta, Donna Thompson and Joseph Thompson, five grandchildren; Christopher, Eric (Carrie), Chad (Julia), Jeremy Gasta and Jamie (Tim) Weiss, seven great grandchildren and Gerald’s special friend and neighbor, Nina Dixon.

Per Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  No visitation or services will be held at the Ambrose Funeral Home.

Nancy M. Montgomery

Nancy M. Montgomery

Mrs. Montgomery passed away Wednesday July 22, 2009 at Brian’s House age 78 years.  Daughter of the late Henry & Helen (Gagner) Trombley she was born February 4, 1931 in Bay City.  She married James Montgomery December 15, 1956.  He predeceased her February 1, 1987.  Nancy was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church and was past President of St. Anne Society.  She sang in the church choir, worked in the food pantry and helped out on the funeral luncheons.  Nancy enjoyed going out for coffee with her friends from the “49 club”, graduates from the 1949 class of St. Joseph School, and her friends from Tepes.

Surviving are five children; Leslie Grew, Kay Stewart, Amy (Keith) Clark, John (Bridgett) Montgomery, Scott (Michelle) Montgomery, eight grandchildren; Sean (Katherine) Grew, Dawn Stewart, Matt & Jessica Clark, Andrew & Nicholas Montgomery, Chelsea & Victoria Montgomery, one sister; Louise Pierce, a sister in-law; Mayme Trombley and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Brian’s House, Fire Station #5 and Bay Regional Medical Center for the wonderful care that was given to Nancy.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday July 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Church.  Rev. Fr. Patrick C. O’Connor will oficiate with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Friday from 2 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass.  St. Anne Society will pray the rosary at 3:00 p.m. Friday.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Joseph Parish.

Mrs. Glover passed away Monday July 20, 2009 at the Bay Regional Medical Center age 68 years.

Virginia M. Gibas

Mrs. Gibas passed away Sunday July 19, 2009 at the Bay Regional Medical Center age 82 years.  Daughter of the late Otto & Jennie (Gorney) Karbowski she was born August 12, 1926 in Bay City.  She married Gerald Gibas November 16, 1946 in Bay City.  He predeceased her in August of 1980.  Virginia was a seamstress for many years.  She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church and enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Surviving are two children; Linda (Michael) Schnettler, Michael (Bonnie) Gibas, three grandchildren; Matthew (Jennifer) Gibas, Christopher & Alex Gibas, two great-grandchildren; Matison & Brody Gibas, one brother: James (Gloria) Karbowski and a sister in-law; Jeanette “Jen” Janasik.  She was predeceased by a brother; Richard (Elgia) Karbowski.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday July 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Hyacinth Church.  Rev. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will officiate with burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church only on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider family wishes.
